William Lewis Brody
November 16, 1930 – April 4, 2022
Please keep the family and friends of William Brody in your thoughts and prayers. Bill was 91 years of age and was born and raised in Hazelwood and a long-time Greenfield resident, passed away after a short illness on April 4, 2022. Bill was the eldest son of the late Charles A. Brody and Margaret (Cunningham) Brody. He was the husband of the late Mary (McBride) Brody, brother to the late Rege Brody and the late Pat (Brody) Cummings, and dear friend and companion of Kay LaRocque. He was the adored Uncle and family patriarch of his beloved nieces and nephews Maureen (Brody) Lengel, Tom Brody, Cindy (Brody) Brandon, Jim Brody, Colleen (Brody) McCarthy, Bill Cummings, Greg Cummings and Joe Cummings. Uncle Bill lavished on his nieces and nephews throughout his life and the sense of loss we share is profound. He was and will always be our beloved Uncle Bill.
Bill lived for the past twenty-five years in Sarasota, Florida where he enjoyed his retirement on the beautiful beach on Siesta Key. He was still doing his daily three-mile power walk/light jog up until late January 2022. Bill was a lifelong college and professional football enthusiast, and he was especially pleased to see his favorite player Tom Brady win the Super Bowl while playing for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Uncle Bill once refused to evacuate his Florida condominium in the face of an oncoming hurricane because he did not want to miss seeing Tom Brady play on Sunday Night Football.
Bill was a retired long-time employee in the shipping department of the Jones & Laughlin Steel Company, Hazelwood Works, and a member of the United Steelworkers of America. He bravely served his country in the United States Navy serving as a Yeoman on board the Essex-class aircraft carrier USS Philippine Sea (CV-47).
