Edwin Francis Vandergrift

Please keep the family and friends of Edwin F. Vandergrift in your thoughts and prayers. Edwin was 92 years of age, a lifelong resident of Hazelwood and peacefully went to rest on April 27, 2021.  Edwin was born June 16, 1928 to the late  Edwin L. Vandergrift and Florence Martine Vandergrift. He is predeceased in death by his brother Robert Vandergrift.  He will surely be missed by his beloved nieces, nephew and cousins.   Edwin proudly served in the US Army, 1950 through 1952 and was stationed in Germany. He was a lifelong member of St. Stephen Church, passionately donated his time to the Parish Share Program and served as Director of the lectors for the weekly Mass schedule.  He graduated from Central District Catholic High School and Carnegie Institute of Technology.  Edwin loved baseball and especially the Pittsburgh Pirates.  He coached the Hazelwood Little League and took the team to the Little League World Series in 1960.  Throughout his retirement he continued serving the community as a runner then a driver for the Meals on Wheels Program.  Interment will be in the Calvary Cemetery.Friends received at the John D. O’Connor and Son Funeral Home, Inc., Patrick Vereb, FD, 5106 Second Avenue, 15207, 412-521-8116 on Thursday, April 29, 2021,  2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM.  Mass of Christian Burial in St. Paul Cathedral Parish- St. Stephen Church, Friday, at 10 AM.
